Presidential Pets

Written by Alessia

With President’s Day coming up, I think the most important thing to celebrate are the kings of the White House, the most common presidential pet – doggies. There have been more dogs than presidents in the White House to date, and it seems like there can’t be a good president without a loyal hound by his side in the office. These presidential pets, or first dogs, if you will, should be celebrated next week along with this country’s presidents.

President Nixon and Checkers

JFK and Charlie
President Kennedy with Dog "Charlie"

President Ford and Liberty (who would signal the end of meetings!)

President Clinton and Buddy

President Obama and Sunny

These are just a few of the many dogs that have graced the White House, but check out more about these presidential pets by watching this video. Happy President’s Day (Presidential Pets Day)!
