There has been widespread outrage after a Mastiff was found buried alive by a dog walker in France.
The unfortunate dog was found by Pedro Dinis, who was walking his dog in Carrieres-sue-Seine, west of Paris. He said “Only her head was visible and it was difficult to see given the amount of earth covering her.” Mr Dinis called the emergency services while he started to free the dog.
Reports suggest that a French police source said that the dog had her lead attached to a sack of gravel so stop her escaping. Mr Dinis was so shocked by the scene that he took photographs of the dog which were later handed in to the authorities.
The vets who treated the dog were able to trace her 21 year old owner who denied burying the dog alive and insisted that she had run away. Police commented that this was not likely as the Mastiff is 10 years old and suffers from arthritis. The owner was taken into custody and could face up to 2 years in jail as well as a maximum fine of £21,000.
The photos and story have attracted widespread outrage on social media and a petition has been set up calling for the maximum punishment for the owner. It has so far attracted of 370,000 signatures. You can find it by clicking here.
